The latest work by Gonzalo Álvarez invites us on a continuous journey of self-reflection. Like the black panther, we can develop the ability to observe, practice patience, and cultivate serenity to find balance in our lives. Recognizing the right moments to express ourselves, listen, and flow with our surroundings allows us to build a deeper connection with ourselves and others.
The artist shares his vision:
“They are a symbol of strength, energy, and magic. That is why it is essential to learn to cultivate virtue, reality, mental balance, and altruism. In other words, to take care of our energy. This creates a powerful synergistic effect…”
The black panther is the result of a genetic variation known as melanism, which causes an excess of pigmentation in its skin, making it darker. This characteristic allows it to move fluidly within its environment, adapting naturally and harmoniously. Among big cats, this trait is found in two species: the leopard (Panthera pardus) and the jaguar (Panthera onca, also known as the yaguareté).
Álvarez’s work conveys that same sense of confidence and depth. His portrayal invites us to reflect on our relationship with the color black and its symbolism in artistic expression.
The artist leaves us with a thought on childhood and creative freedom:
“It is extremely important that, as adults, we support the confidence with which children choose their colors when painting. Black is just another color, and children often incorporate it naturally into their artistic creations.”
Let children be.
Additionally, the artist extends an invitation to teachers and childhood mentors to create stories inspired by his work:
“Once upon a time… a Masked Panther lived deep in the Amazon rainforest…”
What story will you tell?
